Trends in House Design and Construction

House design and construction has evolved a lot through the years. The house you lived in as a child may look nothing like the houses of today. New materials and methods are changing the way Philippine architects design and build your home as they try to keep in step with the new developments in the architectural industry.

To give you an idea on how future houses will look like, here are some important home design trends:

1. Earth-Friendly Home Design
One of the most exciting and most important trends in home design is the increased focus on preserving the environment. Architects and engineers are looking to go back to old building techniques that used simple and biodegradable materials to create comfortable, economical and rustically beautiful earth-friendly houses.

2. Prefabricated Home Design
Thinking trailer park? Not at all. Trend-setting architects and builders are creating bold new designs using modular building materials, including a lot of glass and steel.

3. Reusing Old Designs
The desire to protect the environment and preserve historic architecture has inspired architects to reuse and remodel older structures. Homes of the future may be constructed from the shell of an old church, an outdated factory and other derelict property.

4. Healthy Home Design
Some building materials pose dangers to your health so home designers are taking  a closer look at the potential side effects of synthetic materials and the chemical additives used in paints and composition wood products. The most innovative houses aren't necessarily those that have the most unusual design; they’re the dwellings constructed without the use of plastics, laminates and fume-producing glues.

5. Storm-Resistant Home Design
Some areas in the Philippines are regularly hit by strong rain and winds during typhoon season so every house should be built to withstand the elements. Home builders are progressing steadily in developing storm-ready home designs. In areas where typhoons strike the hardest, Philippine home builders can use insulated wall panels made from sturdy concrete.
